Zhejiang University of Chinese Medicine is a key university and a high-level university in Zhejiang Province. It is jointly built by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Ministry of Education. The school was formerly known as Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was founded in 1953. In 1959, Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established. In 2000, the school moved to Binjiang Higher Education Park in Hangzhou. In the course of running the school for more than 60 years, the school has been adhering to the school motto of "seeking the original ambition" and has formed the concept of "educating people, academic supremacy", the school spirit of "seeking truth and seeking truth" and the spirit of "medical sincerity and innovation".

The university has Binwen Campus and Fuchun campus, covering an area of more than 1,500 mu, with 22 teaching units, and three affiliated hospitals directly affiliated to it, including the First affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine), the second affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Provincial Xinhua Hospital) and the third affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Zhongshan Hospital). There are also 4 affiliated hospitals with homogenized management, including Hangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wenzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ningbo Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Provincial Tongde Hospital. At present, there are nearly 25,000 full-time students (including more than 5,600 master and doctoral students, more than 1,200 international students with academic degrees), and more than 1,600 faculty members. The university is a national demonstration base for training innovative talents, with a group of national-level leading talents such as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese medical masters.

The school makes every effort to promote the construction of disciplines and continuously improve the ability of scientific and technological innovation and service. In the first batch of universities in Zhejiang Province to obtain the national key discipline (clinical basis of Traditional Chinese medicine), Chinese medicine was selected into the Zhejiang Provincial peak discipline construction plan, Chinese pharmacy, integrated traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine was selected into the provincial advantageous characteristic discipline construction plan. Ranked 665 in the Top 1000 Academic Rankings of Soft Science World Universities in 2024 (the second place of Chinese medicine universities in China), and three disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings. It has established the Medical Basic Research Innovation Center of the Ministry of Education and two national TCM clinical research bases, and 52 provincial and ministerial platforms such as the Collaborative Innovation Center of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Key Laboratory of Zhejiang Province, and the Key Cultivation Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Zhejiang Province. He has won 5 National Science and Technology Progress Award, 5 National Technological Invention Award, the first prize of Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Science and Technology) of the Ministry of Education, and 14 first Prize of Science and Technology of Zhejiang Province. Sponsored "Journal of Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University", "CTMP" and "Zhejiang Clinical Medicine" three academic journals.

The school focuses on moral cultivation and continues to improve the quality of education and teaching. It is one of the first universities in the country to recruit and train Chinese medicine graduate students, and one of the first universities in Zhejiang Province to obtain the right to grant doctoral degrees and post-doctoral research centers. It has set up 34 medical and related undergraduate majors such as Chinese medicine, clinical medicine, stomatology, Chinese pharmacy and nursing. It has 11 state-level first-class undergraduate programs, 4 first-level doctoral programs, 9 first-level master programs, 11 professional programs and 3 post-doctoral research centers. There are a number of teaching platforms above provincial and ministerial level, such as the national TCM clinical teaching and training demonstration center, the national experimental teaching demonstration center, the national off-campus practice base for college students, and two provincial modern industrial colleges. Won 5 national teaching achievement awards.

The school gives full play to the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and actively promotes social services and foreign cooperation and exchanges. It has carried out strategic cooperation with more than 10 cities (counties and districts) inside and outside the province, jointly built 7 local research institutes such as Jinhua Research Institute of Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University (Zhejiang Laboratory) and Fuyang Research Institute of Zhejiang Chinese Medicine University, and set up a number of cooperation platforms such as technology transfer center and expert workstation. It has established cooperative relations with more than 160 educational, scientific research and medical institutions in more than 50 countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic and Japan, and has built 2 Confucius Institutes, 1 overseas branch school, 4 overseas Chinese medicine centers and 1 national characteristic service export base (Chinese medicine).
